Our vision for this farm reaches beyond our little space of land. We are building and growing because our community has come around us, visiting nearly every month out of the year, longing for more opportunities to be among nature, and sharing our space with others. We yearn to answer this desire for more in the coming years!
For those who wish to partner with us as we grow together this upcoming year, we wanted to provide a space to make an investment in the farm. Many of you ask for opportunities to help and here are some specific areas where we find the most beneficial as we move into this new venture.
Animals: it is a delight to share our animals with you when you visit. Our sheep herd is growing and we want to provide a safe and comfortable space for our mama sheep to deliver her babies as well as spaces for all the sheep to rest in the heat of the summer. The sheep provide joy, but also nutrients to the soil through their wool.
Infrastructure: our classes, field trips, and events provide an unparalleled opportunity for guests to come experience the farm. However, weather can cancel or otherwise hinder the opportunities we have to host. With the addition of a small climate controlled structure we could extend the life of the farm year round and in harsh weather.
Irrigation: for the past four years we have watered all the flowers by hand. We have made some initial investments in overhead sprinklers with timers, but would love to be able to support growing in nearly all seasons. In order to do this, we need a more reliable irrigation system, specifically for fall flowers.
Environmental: to enhance the space of the farm, shade trees will be added along main spaces. These trees will not only help with flooding issues in the spring, but also overheating in the summer months. Guests will have a more enjoyable experience with the addition of new trees carefully placed in beneficial areas.
We refuse to go into debt building this dream. So far, everything we have put into the farm has been from our own savings, government grants, private grants, and earnings poured back into the farm. We work hard at making due with what we've got and will continue to do so as we move forward.
